Frequently Asked Questions
Thermally modified wood is timber that has been treated at extremely high temperatures (up to 260 °C). During this process, the structure of the wood changes, giving it exceptional resistance to fungi and biological damage. It also gains improved fire resistance, moisture repellency, thermal insulation properties, and enhanced durability.
Properties of Thermally Modified Wood
Low hygroscopicity – the wood practically stops absorbing moisture. Even when fully submerged in water for a long period, it absorbs no more than about 8% of its total weight in moisture.
Dimensional stability – the wood maintains its shape and size. It does not warp, twist, or develop cracks.
Strength – highly resistant to mechanical damage. Scratches or dents are difficult to create even intentionally.
Low thermal conductivity – reduced by 10–30%, making it suitable for underfloor heating systems, as well as for saunas and steam rooms.
Safety – remains a natural and environmentally friendly material while offering improved fire resistance. Thermally modified wood is difficult to ignite and burns slowly.
Decorative appearance – the natural grain becomes more pronounced, and the color becomes deeper, richer, and more uniform throughout the entire thickness of the board.
Durability – resistant to fungi, bacteria, and insects.
Natural aroma – retains the pleasant scent of natural wood.
Standard equipment for saunas with a length of 5 meters or more:
All rectangular saunas are built using classic frame construction technology and insulated with 50 mm mineral wool.
Exterior finishing features thermally modified pine cladding (thermo-pine imitation timber). The roof is made of metal profile sheets, the rear wall is also finished with metal profile, and the bottom exterior side is covered with moisture-resistant OSB treated with bitumen.
Each sauna includes the following as standard:
Interior cladding of the steam room made from 16 mm alder wood.
Benches and floor grates in the steam room made from alder.
One 450 × 450 mm window in the steam room with an opening function for ventilation.
Protective finishing behind and beneath the stove made from a magnesium board covered with a stainless-steel sheet to prevent burns.
Adjustable ventilation system designed for saunas.
Sauna door made from thermo-pine, manufactured in-house with tempered glass, or a fully glass door by Tesla™.
Interior surfaces in the steam room treated with sauna oil.
Wood-burning stove by Novaslav™ (Classic series) including all necessary components: two chimney pipes, a Master Flash roof seal, and a chimney cap (stones not included).
Exterior entrance door – metal-plastic construction.
In the relaxation room: an additional 450 × 450 mm ventilation window, an extra sauna ventilation outlet, and a panoramic fixed window (double-glazed unit in a wooden frame) measuring 1500 × 1000 mm on the front wall.
Table and benches in the relaxation room.
In the shower area, the floor base is finished with bitumen roofing felt with a 50 mm drainage opening for water runoff (plumbing not included).
Walls in the shower area finished with thermo-pine imitation timber or paneling.
Flooring throughout the sauna made from thermo-pine floorboards.
Electrical setup: 2 sockets, 2 light fixtures, and an internal electrical box with two circuit breakers.
Exterior coating: deep-penetration wood protection paint with UV filter by DoctorTex™.
In the standard configuration, each of our “Quadro” or “Round” saunas features double-wall construction. The exterior is made from thermally modified pine timber (thermo-pine) with a thickness of 35 mm or 43 mm, while the interior is finished with alder wood.
Between these two layers, we install foil-backed sauna vapor insulation, which significantly improves heat retention, especially during the winter season.
The standard equipment of each sauna includes:
Interior cladding of the steam room made from 16 mm alder wood.
Alder benches in the steam room and in the anteroom / dressing area.
One 450 × 450 mm window in the steam room with an opening function for ventilation.
Alder floor grates.
Protective finishing behind and beneath the stove made from a magnesium board covered with a stainless-steel sheet.
Adjustable sauna ventilation system.
Electrical wiring for lighting and a switch, plus a ceramic light fixture with a switch.
Sauna door made from thermo-pine, produced in-house and fitted with tempered glass.
Interior surfaces in the steam room treated with sauna oil.
Wood-burning stove by Novaslav™ (Classic series) including all required components: two chimney pipes, a Master Flash roof seal, and a chimney cap (stones not included).
Additional sauna ventilation outlet in the relaxation room or dressing area.

Customers usually purchase the stones and additional sauna accessories after receiving the sauna, or they can order them from us before the sauna is shipped.
One of the main advantages of barrel saunas is that they do not require a traditional foundation. Of course, having a foundation is always a plus, but it is not mandatory.
If the buyer already has paving stones, concrete, or asphalt on the property, the sauna can be installed directly on that surface. The only requirements are to ensure a level base and provide proper waterproofing between the wooden supports of the sauna and the surface it stands on.
To keep the sauna in good condition, the owner should simply follow a few basic maintenance rules:
Make sure the sauna is installed on a level surface.
Ventilate the sauna properly between uses.
Periodically tighten the metal tension bands.
Renew the exterior wood protection coating every 2–3 years, depending on sun exposure.
Avoid exceeding the recommended temperatures in the steam room.
Never leave a heated sauna unattended.
These simple steps will help ensure safe operation and a long service life for the sauna.
